Life in a wheelchair ~ July 2014

“Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” - Joshua J. Marine

Tuesday 1st July 2014

Robyn called in for a chat; it was lovely to see her. Then Helen and Susan came over and we played Mah Jong until it was time for Happy Hour.

Wednesday 2nd July 2014

We went up to the pub for dinner and trivia; I think this week we came 4th.

Thursday 3rd July 2014

Pete Mate pushed me into the village so I could attend the card making class I enjoy. My brain and heart was not in it today and I didn’t do as well as previous weeks. Afterwards we did some shopping and then had lunch at the café. Roger joined us and it was very enjoyable. Once home Pete Mate had a nanna nap and then went to happy hour. I rested the leg on the bed and did some knitting.

Friday 4th July 2014

We went to the bowling club for tea with a few friends. Apaprt from that nothing really happened.

Saturday 5th July 2014

Pete Mate took me up to the village for lunch and to pick up one or two things form the shop. In the afternoon I played Mah Jong with Helen and Susan. I then went to happy hour.

Sunday 6th July 2014

I again played Mah Jong with Helen and Susan and also went to happy hour.

Monday 7th July 2014

I helped Sue out with Bell Park accounts for most of the day. Pete Mate took me up to the café for my lunch break. Our favourite singing waitress, Kylie had a day off so we missed our treat of a song.

Tuesday 8th July 2014

Today did not go according to plan. I worked on the accounts in the morning and then Pete Mate collected me for lunch. Roger also joined us. Our singing waitress was back. So far so good but ... now it all unravelled. The computer decided to have a hissy fit and no more work was done. Sue had to drive into Rocky to take it to the repairers. I went home and gave happy hour a miss as I was tired and very cold.

Wednesday 9th July 2014

A quiet morning followed by an afternoon of Mah Jong with Helen and Susan. No trivia tonight due to some rugby match.

Thursday 10th July 2014

Pete Mate took me to card-making in the morning. When he collected me we did some shopping and then had lunch at the café with Roger.

Friday 11th July 2014

The office computer is back and it looks like we are back in business. We had dinner at the pub tonight for a change from the bowling club. Quite a crowd went and it was a good night.

Saturday 12th July 2014

Pete Mate took me up to the RSL for the cent sale in the morning. I was the only one on our table who didn’t win a prize. In the afternoon I again played Mah Jong with Helen and Susan. Afterwards I Skyped with my family instead of going to happy hour.

Sunday 13th July 2014

I did some work with the accounts and then played Mah Jong once again. I went over to happy hour for a while.

Monday 14th July 2014

I did some more accounting work and then knitted and read. At happy hour time Sue came over and we enjoyed our own little H.H.

Tuesday 15th July 2014

Pete Mate took me up to the village for lunch and to pick up a couple of things from the shop. In the afternoon I played Mah Jong with Helen and Susan.

Wednesday 16th July 2014

Our good friends Jan and Ross arrived for a few days. It was lovely to see them again as it has been quite a while. We sat and had a chat and then later we went up to the pub for happy hour followed by dinner and trivia. We didn’t win again but came our usual third.

Thursday 17th July 2014

Pete Mate took me over to the CWA hall to make cards; Jan came as well. When Pete Mate and Ross collected us we all went for some lunch at our usual café. We then trundled up to the bowling club for the afternoon. It was the inter-park bowls day combined with the social bowls. Pete Mate was the official photographer and I was in charge of the lucky numbers raffle. One team was a player short so Ross stepped up to the breach and by all accounts did really well. The afternoon finished with a sausage sizzle, some presentations and of course lots of drinks. We then went back to the park for happy hour. Happy hour was a long one and by the end there were just eight of us left so we wandered up to the fish and chip shop for tea.

Friday 18th July 2014

A quiet day really, I did some knitting and reading. Jan and Ross called in for a coffee. In the evening we went to happy hour and then to the bowling club for tea. It was a good night as always.

Saturday 19th July 2014

We went into the village with Ross and Jan to have lunch and pick up a few things at the supermarket. In the afternoon I played Mah Jong with Helen and Susan. Gail came and sat for a while to watch. We had our normal happy hour then we enjoyed a delicious barbecue with ample meat provided by Suzanne and Cathy, both of whom had won meat trays in recent raffles. The salads were, as usual, scrumptious so ate too much, and then out came the desserts. Boy do we eat well here at Bell Park. The occasion was to say goodbye to our lovely friend, Roger, who has had to cut his winter holiday short. Roger’s son had joined him to share the long drive home. We will miss you Roger and look forward to next year.

Sunday 20th July 2014

Pete Mate got up early to go and say goodbye to Roger but found he had already left. Jan and Ross called in to say their farewells; it is always so sad to say goodbye to good friends.

Monday 21st July 2014

I worked all day on the park accounts but feel like I am getting on top of things.

Tuesday 22nd July 2014

We went into Yeppoon to do some shopping. Then in the afternoon I played Mah Jong. Later we went to Happy Hour. Then along with Cathy and Phil we were invited to tea at Suzanne and Leigh’s place. It was a lovely evening with really yummy food.

Wednesday 23rd July 2014

I did some more accounting work in the morning and then played Mah Jong in the afternoon. Later we called in at Happy Hour before going up to the pub for tea and trivia. I long for the day I can say here in my journal that we won at trivia!

Thursday 24th July 2014

We drove into Rocky to get my ankle X-rayed. It all went according to plan including finding a parking slot just near the entrance. We had one or two things to do whilst in Rocky which also included the liquor shop. Once home Pete Mate had all his chores to do whilst I had a rest before going to happy hour.

Friday 25th July 2014

We once more travelled into Rocky, this time to have the plaster removed. The operation had gone well and I am now in a moon boot. The surgeon was his usual uncommunicative self and if I hadn’t gone armed with a list of questions I would have come away knowing very little. Once home I had a short practice at walking but then rested for a while before happy hour and tea at the bowling club. Whilst resting there was a stream of visitors wanting to enquire how I went and have a look at the ankle. People are so kind here. We enjoyed our evening at the bowling club but sadly none of us won the raffle.

Saturday 26th July 2014

We enjoyed a lazy day before going to the 'Christmas in July' dinner in the evening. It was a really nice night with good food and wine but, best of all, good company.

Sunday 27th July 2014

For the first time since my operation I stood and cooked breakfast which, even though I say myself, was rather yummy. In the afternoon I played Mah Jong but instead of leaving the caravan using the lift I walked out. It was a big moment for me and I felt very pleased with myself. Later we went to Happy Hour.

Monday 28th July 2014

We went into the village to do some shopping and have some lunch. Pete Mate pushed me in the wheel chair as I cannot walk that far yet and he didn’t want to take the car.

Tuesday 29th July 2014

Not a lot happened today except I played Mah Jong with Helen and Susan. Rosemary joined us today, it was nice to see her again.

Wednesday 30th July 2014

I played Mah Jong in the afternoon and then we went up to the pub for dinner and trivia. We were worse than we normally are.

Thursday 31st July 2014

Pete Mate pushed me around to the CWA hall for card making. Once there I left the wheel chair at the door and used the crutches to get around. When he collected me later we enjoyed a sandwich at our favourite little café and then Pete Mate pushed me up to the RSL to play Mah Jong. Susan pushed me home in time for happy hour. All in all it was a good day.
