Back in routine in Emu Park ~ May 2017

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth:
Not going all the way and not starting.    Buddha

Monday 1st May 2017

Today was a public holiday so we took the day off and read and knitted.

Tuesday 2nd May 2017

Our main event of the day was our appointment with our care nurse. She arranges our annual free five visits for the medical service(s) of our choice. We both chose the podiatrist. Nurse Leah is very chatty and we spent most of the time looking at shoes on the internet and photos of her grandchildren. Once we escaped Nurse Leah we did some shopping in the village before heading home for a late lunch.

Wednesday 3rd May 2017

I did a few things in the morning and then in the afternoon I went to Jill’s for a cup of tea and a chat. We enjoyed a lovely time together.

Thursday 4th May 2017

I went to card-making in the morning and made five cards; once again I was very pleased with just one of them. Then in the afternoon I played Mah Jong. I scored really high (for me) and felt very pleased as I hadn’t played since last October. The drawback is they have changed the chairs and tables at the RSL. The tables are smaller and the chairs are very uncomfortable.

Friday 5th May 2017

I made the mistake of thinking I could do Tai Chi. By the time the session had finished I was in a lot of pain with my dodgy knees. I then had a couple of things to do in the village and by the time I got home, walking was agony. I rested for the rest of the day and eventually, with the help of painkillers, the pain subsided.

Saturday 6th May 2017

I woke up feeling much better today. We both had dentist appointments. I had a broken filling and needed a clean and Pete Mate had a cracked tooth and also needed a clean. I went in first and was in the chair for an hour. It was not the most pleasant experience in my life. Pete Mate seemed to be very quick but his long session will happen next week when he has his tooth capped.

We left there in search of food as it was way past lunchtime. As it was Saturday afternoon a few places had closed for the day. We found a food outlet and had a mediocre sandwich and a much needed drink. Once home I spent a little time with Sue going through all the events I am organising this year. Before we knew it was time for happy hour. We met a new couple and said goodbye to Rod and Ursula.

Sunday 7th May 2017

We enjoyed a very pleasant day in Paradise.

Monday 8th May 2017

We had a big day out in Rocky, shopping. Pete Mate said he wanted to buy me a red dress as I mentioned one evening I had always wanted one. We went into a few dress shops before arriving at Noni B, my favourite shop. I tried on quite a few dresses, the assistant was lovely and Pete Mate did an amazing job of being the runner and zipper upper. He was in and out of the dressing room taking dresses back to the assistant who would appear with more. I discovered my rotund figure is not suited to a dress. I got dressed and was ready to give up when we started all over again with a skirt and tops. Success! I walked out of there with some clothes I really like and felt good in.

We visited Williams Shoes another of my favourite shops. I love going to shops where the assistants listen to what you want and try to accommodate you. We both bought sandals, Pete Mate’s old ones gave up the ghost and I wanted an extra pair. We visited a few other shops and somewhere in the middle had lunch. What a day we had; we were exhausted. Before we left Rocky we visited Mitsubishi and booked Billy in for a service and a new part. Once home it was time for happy hour.

Tuesday 9th May 2017

I had my appointment with Dr Pretorius today. He checked my hip and was happy with that and then we talked about new knees. The outcome of that is I have one knee done on 17th July and the second one done three months later. After we left there we picked up one or two things from Coles and had a cuppa at the café. Happy Hour happened inside our caravan with Sue as the weather was very wet and windy outside.

Wednesday 10th May 2017

I had a cup of tea with friend Trish this morning. She had a bad fall in a supermarket but is recovering well. In the afternoon I knitted again, staying inside away from the cold and the rain. By the time happy hour arrived, the rain had stopped but it was still cold so the jacket came out from under the bed for the first time this year.

Thursday 11th May 2017

I went to card-making at the CWA this morning and was happy with what I made. However, I developed a tummy bug whilst there and came home for a lie down.

Friday 12th May 2017

Tummy bug all sorted today and feeling much better. Pete Mate went off to the dentist for his long appointment to prepare for a crown. I cleaned. Sue came over and we had a cup of tea. After lunch Pete Mate sorted out the awning so we could finally have the shade up. It is so much better to sit outside. Happy Hour was very pleasant with a new couple joining us. They had only booked in for one night but like the place so much they are now staying five nights. That seems to be the trend here at the park right now.

Saturday 13th May 2017

In the morning I had a quick trip into the village to do some shopping. In the afternoon I went up to the RSL for the afternoon tea and fashion show. Sue originally was coming as well but had to work in the office so she gave me some money to buy raffle tickets. I sat with friend Jill and Sue - a visitor from Tasmania. Sue and I initially thought we hadn’t met before but by the end of the afternoon we realised we did know each other and have many mutual friends.

The fashion show was really good and it was a very pleasant afternoon. Sue (caravan park manager) won a bottle of wine and I won nothing. Once home I gave Sue her prize and she promptly gave it back to me for Pete Mate as a gift for doing the web site. So we three drank it at happy hour. Happy Hour is getting a bit busier now with new couples joining us.

Sunday 14th May 2017

Mother’s Day. Sue and I did a quick visit to the village hall to check out the Well Being Exhibition. It was not overly interesting and we were soon home. Pete Mate and I then drove out to Ferns for lunch and the music. As always it was an excellent afternoon made very special by the lovely welcome we received from Marto and Genevieve. Happy Hour was very pleasant with some more new people joining us.

Monday 15th May 2017

Pete Mate was up and out very early, he had to take the car into Mitsubishi in Rocky for some repairs. I did a whole heap of washing and a little bit of cleaning before settling down on the computer to do Sue’s accounts. My morning went well, Sue brought me over a hot chocolate for morning tea which was very kind, plus I had a few queries for her.

After lunch I had a nap as I had been awake since 4.00am. Pete Mate was back mid-afternoon with a fixed Billy and a hefty bill! Later I picked up the knitting.

Tuesday 16th May 2017

I spent a lot of time sitting outside knitting, the weather is perfect. Pete Mate was reading inside the ‘van. Happy Hour was especially pleasant tonight because BJ and Peter have arrived. It was really good to see them.

Wednesday 17th May 2017

I went over to Iris’s for a cuppa and a chat. It was good to see her as she had been away for a couple of weeks. In the afternoon we both had medical appointments. Mine was a straight forward check up on my toe. Pete Mate gave Dr Beth his blood pressure results. Not good, so he is now on a different tablet. He also has an appointment at the sleep clinic to be tested for sleep apnoea. These days it seems to be one round of medical appointments.

Thursday 18th May 2017

BJ and I went to card-making in the morning. We made some really nice cards. Then I had to be in Rocky at The Mater Hospital for 1.00pm for an MRI on my knees. Pete Mate got his wires crossed and thought we were going to the Mater at Yeppoon so he didn’t hurry getting ready. I was getting stressed as I knew we were going to be late, then it dawned on him we were going to Rocky. I arrived late and went to the wrong entrance. The phone rang it was the MRI people wondering where I was. I was directed to the X-ray department and arrived at the correct reception. The phone rang again and it was the same young girl finding out where I was.

I was taken straight through and the two people in there were lovely, very kind and considerate. Meanwhile Pete Mate had parked the car and also went to the wrong reception following in my footsteps. He was directed to X-ray and I found him waiting for me when I came out of the MRI department. We tried to retrace our footsteps but got lost. A very kind nurse showed us the way. We hadn’t had any lunch so we decided to have a bite to eat at the café in the hospital lobby. I also had to lodge my admission papers. The lunch was less than mediocre and very expensive.

It had been raining more or less all day but when we left the hospital it had stopped, long enough for us to get to the car. Then it started again and didn’t let up. Happy Hour came around and we thought no one would turn up . . . then I spotted Dougie sitting on his own so we went over. No sooner had we sat down when a few more other people arrived so it turned out to be a very pleasant happy hour in the rain.

Friday 19th May 2017

I had a day of knitting and Pete Mate did some reading.

Knitted cardie
We have two little relatives called Poppy. This is for Little Poppy.

Saturday 20th May 2017

We had a short trip into the village to pick up one or two things from the supermarket, to check Pete Mate’s medication at the pharmacy and have a coffee at Jolt.

Once home Pete Mate decided to change the sacrificial anode in the water heater whilst I was making some soup for lunch. It may have been coincidence or PM did something but we lost power. The rest of the day was spent looking for the fault. We gave up at happy hour time and resigned ourselves - we would be on battery power for the time being. At happy hour our neighbour, Bob, listened to our woes and said he would come over after happy hour. He did and he spent ages looking for the fault. His conclusion was it was a failed circuit breaker. Nothing could be done about it tonight. We managed very well on the battery power.

Sunday 21st May 2017

Bob had spent some time last night checking out our power problem on-line and with friends. He came over for a second look and after a while came to the same conclusion; it was the circuit breaker. We had to remain on battery for another day and tomorrow. Bob would get the part and fit it for us. By afternoon we saw our battery power being drained away as our fridge runs on battery with no mains power available. Pete Mate rigged up a power cord to feed the battery so we had some power in the ‘van.

Monday 22nd May 2017

The wonderful Bob did as he said he would and went into Yeppoon early, bought the part and then fitted it for us. Once more we have power. You don't appreciate what you have until you don’t have it.

Pete Mate had an appointment at the sleep clinic which we thought went well. We came away with all the gear to ‘hook’ him up tonight before bedtime. We then went and had some lunch before Pete Mate dropped me off at Sue’s accountant’s for a meeting. The meeting went well and then Sue and I went for a coffee in a new café/bookshop. I found a book for great grandson Ethan to go with his dinosaur jumper I had knitted. Happy Hour was good - there are few more people in the park that are coming to HH. Bedtime arrived and Pete Mate's hooking up procedure started. We watched the video and tried over and over again but failed. We decided to pack it all away and take the equipment back tomorrow.

Tuesday 23rd May 2017

We returned the equipment to the sleep clinic and confessed we failed. Pete Mate is now booked in for a sleep-over at The Mater Hospital. When we left there we had one or two things to do in Yeppoon before heading home for lunch. In the afternoon I sorted out the wool for my next projects. Once again Happy Hour was good.

Wednesday 24th May 2017

I had to have my annual eye check to make sure the Fuch’s Disease is stable. Good news! All is well. Afterwards we went to Stockland’s for lunch and shopping. We then did a wine shop before heading home. Once home I had a lot of washing to do because someone spilt his red wine all over the bedding.

Thursday 24th May 2017

I went to the CWA in the morning for card-making and then to the RSL in the afternoon to play Mah Jong. I was doing really well at Mah Jong and would have come second if I had not made a really stupid mistake. The only trouble I had was sitting on those small chairs and playing on the small tables. I had nowhere to stretch my legs out so by the time I left my knees were really painful. Happy Hour tonight was a special one for Bob and Donna to say thank you for the help Bob gives people in the park. It went very well and I think everyone had a good time.

Friday 25th May 2017

BJ and I went to the Biggest Morning Tea at the library. It was lovely and I managed to catch up with the Tai Chi ladies as well. I miss their company. Pete Mate and I then had appointments at the podiatrist in Yeppoon. Afterwards we had some lunch at the café and did a bit of shopping. At happy hour we ate last night’s leftovers. There will be no weight loss this week!

Saturday 26th May 2017

It was the CWA Biggest Morning Tea - every morning tea for cancer research is called the 'biggest'. BJ and I had our jobs to do. BJ was a runner for the raffles and I was a scruncher of raffle tickets. It was a lovely morning filled with a lot of laughter and fun. BJ and Lynn were the only two ladies that decorated their bras and they had to model them . . .

Bras
That's Brenda-Jean Adams (BJ) on the left and Lyn Forrest on the right,
sporting their prize bras. CWA President, Cheryl Greene, is in the centre.
They both won a prize as they were both very good. BJ donated her prize to the Morning Tea I am organising in the park. (It's not for cancer research so I have to leave off the word Biggest.) BJ and I did really well with our raffle prizes; once again I won a few more prizes to give away at my morning tea.

In the afternoon Jill and Trish joined BJ and me to make stars for the million-star project. We struggled a bit at first but eventually got the hang of it. Happy Hour was very pleasant.

Sunday 28th May 2017

Pete Mate and I walked into Bell Park to look at the Classic Car Show. It was amazing how many cars and motor bikes were there. I fell in love with a beautiful old car. It was immaculate and so classy; I think it was a Chevy. After a while we wandered over to Jolt for a sit down and some lunch. Then we made our way home slowly because my knees were saying enough already. After a relaxing afternoon we went over to happy hour which was once again very pleasant.

Monday 29th May 2017

I spent the whole day making posters and getting organised for the events I am running this year. Pete Mate had an appointment at the doctors for a severe earache. Happy Hour was good and we welcomed the lovely Barry back to the park.

Tuesday 30th May 2017

I went to CWA this morning for the star making project. As BJ and I had practised on Saturday we were able to help others. It was a good morning. In the afternoon I had a huge sort out of things, I was tired of seeing ‘stuff’ lying about the caravan. By happy hour time I was well and truly tired. Roger and his son Noddy had arrived during the day and it was good to see them at happy hour. We four then went to the pub for dinner, it was not the best meal I have eaten there. It was a pleasant evening.

Wednesday 31st May 2017

I collected Iris around 10am to have a day in Rocky. We visited the card shop and then Stockland’s before finishing off at Spotlight. Meanwhile Roger and Noddy had collected Pete Mate from the caravan and they also went into Rocky. They took Noddy to the airport and then did a few things in Rocky before collecting Iris and I from Spotlight. The reason Roger collected us was he wanted to eat at the Leagues Club and I am unsure about driving through Rocky. We enjoyed a very pleasant meal accompanied by the sounds of workmen renovating the club. Not the ideal situation for chatting. Roger then dropped Iris and I back at Spotlight and we all made our way home. Once home PM and I had good nanny naps. Then it was happy hour time.
